Avon and Somerset Police have launched an appeal after four fires damaged caravans in the Goodneston Road area of Fishponds, with officers treating the incidents as suspected arson.
In an update published on Friday 7 February, police said the fires have occurred since November and that detectives believe there is a “strong possibility” the incidents are linked.
Police said the dates and approximate times were: Thursday 13 November at about 5pm; Monday 5 January at about 5.10pm; Monday 26 January into Tuesday 27 January at an unknown time; and Thursday 5 February at about 10pm.
The force said CCTV enquiries have been carried out and witnesses have been spoken to, but no suspect has been identified so far. Police said one member of the public reported seeing two men arrive in the area in an older-style brown estate car around the time of the November fire.
Inspector Richard Jones, from the Fishponds neighbourhood policing team, said there have been no serious injuries to date, but warned deliberate fires can have catastrophic consequences. He said officers and PCSOs are carrying out high-visibility patrols in the area “for reassurance” and to try to identify those responsible.
For local residents, the immediate position is increased police presence in the Goodneston Road area while enquiries continue, alongside an ongoing effort to establish whether the four fires are connected and who was involved.
