Four charged with murder after Stapleton Road death in Bristol

Four men have been charged with murder and possession of a bladed article in a public place following the death of 47-year-old Leon Phillips, according to Avon and Somerset Police.

Police said Mr Phillips died in hospital on Tuesday 3 February after being injured in Stapleton Road at about 10.45pm the previous evening.

The force said Ayoob Mohamed, 18, from St Pauls; Muner Teclu, 20, from Easton; Fallou Diop, 19, of no fixed address; and Mustafa Ali, 18, from Fishponds were charged on Thursday 5 February. Police said they were due to appear at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Friday 6 February.

Avon and Somerset Police also said a 29-year-old man arrested in connection with the investigation has been released without charge and will face no further action in relation to the case. Two other men arrested earlier in the week have been released on bail, police said.

Detective Chief Inspector Nadine Partridge, the senior investigating officer, said the inquiry had been moving quickly and that detectives were working to establish what happened in the hours leading up to Mr Phillips’s death. She praised the first officers at the scene, and said the victim’s family had been kept updated by specialist liaison officers.

The force asked people to avoid speculation online, warning it could affect future proceedings.
