Bristol police said arrests were made and sound equipment seized overnight as officers responded to multiple unlicensed music events across Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

Avon and Somerset Police said incidents were reported in Aztec West, St Phillips and Purdown, with hundreds of people believed to be in attendance at some locations. Officers said access was blocked to stop more people arriving, with the aim of bringing the gatherings to a close.

In Aztec West, police said a caller reported loud music from a warehouse at around 10.45pm and estimated 400–500 people were present. Officers set up a cordon and said most people dispersed by about 3.30am. One person was arrested on suspicion of offences including drug-driving, as well as drug possession and supply, and remained in custody. Police also said two vehicles containing sound equipment were seized.

In St Phillips, around 400 people were found at an industrial site after a call at about 11.15pm, and that Feeder Road was closed to prevent further access. Officers reported items were thrown at them and at police vehicles in surrounding streets. Two arrests were made, with police saying a drone operator was used to help track suspects and enquiries were continuing.

In Purdown, police said an unauthorised event was reported at about 2.25am with at least 100 people estimated to be there. Officers mentioned “positive engagement” with those believed to be organising it led to the music being turned off, with the area vacated between 4.30am and 5am.

Police said additional resources had been put in place to respond to unlicensed events over New Year, and that their focus was on public safety while allowing people to celebrate.
